Dr Fryar has an interest in Mental health, ENT and is the practice Clinical Governance representative.

Dr Fryar works a variable Monday to Friday rota and is not in the surgery every day.

Dr Susan Wall (f) - Partner

MBChB (Liverpool 1990)  FRACOG FRACGP DFFP

Dr Wall qualified from Liverpool University in 1990. She gained experience in hospital medicine and then moved into General Practice in 1995. Her special interests include women’s health , contraception and menopause and minor surgery . She is also the prescribing lead and cancer lead for the practice.

Dr Wall works a variable Monday to Friday rota and is not in the surgery every day.

Dr Zoe Thompson-Shaw (f) -Partner

MBBS (Newcastle 2006) MRCGP

Dr Thompson-Shaw is the GP lead for medical students in the practice and has a special interest in Teaching, Paediatrics and Dermatology.

Dr Thompson-Shaw works Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Dr Helen Elwell (f) - Salaried GP

MBBS (Newcastle 2006) MRCGP

Dr Elwell has interests in Women's health, Paediatrics, Minor surgery and Mental health (including substance misuse).

Dr Elwell works Mondays & Tuesdays

It is possible to book an appointment any GP on their working days depending on their availability/schedule.  Each GP takes part in the urgent appointment rota and on these days will have limited pre-bookable appointments.

Sara Finnegan (F), Louise Mason (F).

Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, blood pressure checks and dressings. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears.

Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP)

Our Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP) can assess, diagnose, treat illness, and prescribe medication. They can refer you for further tests, to one of our own GP’s or to a hospital consultant as appropriate. For further information on the role of ACP's at Heath Lane Medical Centre click here.

Tracy Wynne (F)

In Tracy's role as a Health care assistant, she supports the clinical team. Her many tasks include taking bloods, seeing patients for chronic annual reviews, NHS health checks, BP checks, flu and pneumonia vaccinations, wound dressings, B12 injections and much more. 

Tracy works Wednesday to Friday (Including enhanced hours on Wednesday’s)

Receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims and dealing with patient records.

Sue Dorrington, Dawn Corcoran, Zoe Dowell

The Secretaries perform an administrative role supporting the demands of a modern public health service. They assist the practice manager, take minutes at meetings, arrange referrals for patients to hospital and follow up queries left with them by the clinicians. They are happy to assist patients in queries about hospital appointments and results. They deal with all Insurance and Solicitor requests, medical examinations and reports and private forms.

Deborah Hollywood - Clinical Pharmacist

MRPharmS, PG Dip (Clin Pharm), IP

Debbie joined Heath Lane in September 2023 as the practice pharmacist.

As well as leading on medication related issues and ensuring prescribing is as safe and effective as possible, Debbie's special interest lies in chronic pain & pain medication optimisation.
